Urban Forestry & Street Tree Programs
Check with your local municipality to find out if they have a street tree program! Below are links to municipal street tree programs in Franklin County. These programs are separate from our Community Backyards rebates. We do encourage residents to consider planting street trees as part of their Community Backyards rebate, assuming proper municipal approval.
- Canal Winchester - Contact the Urban Forester for street tree questions and service requests.
- Dublin - Contact the Division of Parks City Forester (614-410-4701) or Horticulturist (614-410-4700)
- Gahanna - Contact the Parks and Recreation Department (614-342-4250) or City Forester/ISA Certified Arborist (614-342-4261) for tree questions. Street trees are the responsibility of the property owner (with an approved permit). They do not have a street tree program (yet!), but Forestry staff can assist with any tree questions, problems, and hazard tree removal. Use the Gahanna Direct portal to submit a service request for hazard tree removal or park tree maintenance. For general questions or planting advice, contact the Forestry Division. Read the Gahanna 2022 Comprehensive Landscape Plan for additional urban forestry information.
- Hilliard - Contact Hilliard 311 (614-876-7361, ext. 311) for street tree service requests. Contact the Hilliard forestry team for other street tree-related questions and concerns.
- Obetz - No street tree program currently, but follow the city channels in case that changes!
- Upper Arlington - Property owners must apply for a permit to plant, prune, remove or otherwise work on a tree in the right-of-way. Permits are free. There is a cost-share available through Parks & Forestry. Learn more and apply.
- Westerville - Residents can apply for a Tree Work Permit to get a street tree. Trees are selected from an approved list with help from the City Forester. For FAQs, click here.
